Japanese website is selling a pair of plain beige panties for almost $900,000

Artist behind the product says he’s making a point about modern society.

As I’m sure my high school English teachers take great pride in, I regularly write about panties in a professional capacity. With that experience, I’ve come to develop a pretty solid concept of how lingerie is priced in Japan.

Ordinary, off-the-rack bra and panty sets will usually set you back somewhere around 3,000 yen (US$27) or so. For novelty lingerie or more intricate designs, however, you can expect to pay north of 5,000 yen, and in cases for such price-inelastic items as certain anime-themed articles of intimate apparel, you might need to shell out as much as 20,000 yen.

However, there’s no pricing precedent for the above-pictured pair of panties being offered here through Japanese website Tagboat. Yes, they are all-silk, but even that upscale material doesn’t seem to warrant the listed price of 90,001,600 yen (US$812,000). Add in the 7,200,128 yen worth of sales tax, and the grand total comes to 97,201,728 yen (US$877,000) (shipping, thankfully, is free).

So why are they so expensive? Well, Tagboat isn’t a clothing retailer. It’s a modern art marketplace, and the panties, officially called “The Only Panties Like This in the World,” are the brainchild of artist Samurai Masa. You may remember Masa from that time when he was selling a glass teapot with a pair of granny panties stuffed in them for a mere one million yen. The artist claims to be a descendent of the Toyotomi samurai clan, and his Tagboat profile includes:

”With [Masa’s] experiences in art and self-studies in contemporary art, he started to pursue his passion in the art world with underwear as his weapon…Coming from a long line of artistic talents, his ancestors also had a relationship with many cultural celebrities, heroes, and heroines in history. A samurai, surviving in the current world, is going into the world of art not with a sword, but with underwear.”

The only noteworthy feature of the underwear is their thick, anti-incontinence material. Masa didn’t make them himself, instead picking them up at a local supermarket (if you squint, you can see the original, still-attached price tag of just 390 yen). Masa describes the impetus behind his repricing and resale as:

“I feel that the recent advance of excessive materialism, brought on by profit-orientation and free competition, has disrupted the balance and values of the world. Through this artwork, I intend to once again bring to light the problems of the societal system called capitalism.”

Slapping a high price on something that provides no extra benefits compared to less expensive substitutes that provide the same benefits speaks to an extremely shaky understanding of how capitalism works, since that’s exactly the sort of business venture that capitalism tends to mercilessly eliminate. As an art piece, though, it’s certainly got people talking, even if none of them are buying.

Japanese anime artist transforms zodiac signs into lingerie, releases the collection in real life

The beautiful undergarments that started out as fantasy sketches are now a real-life, ready-to-wear collection.

When it comes to lingerie design, Japanese illustrator and Twitter user @papao_pao is constantly blowing us all away with a number of unique, innovative ideas. Last year, the talented artist shared sketches of undergarments inspired by the robots of Mobile Suit Gundam, and this year, we saw a range that brought chess pieces to the world of lingerie.

Following the immense interest in @papao_pao ‘s designs, Japanese lingerie manufacturer Izumi is now bringing one of the artist’s collections to life as a range of actual undergarments that can be worn in the real world.

▼ The announcement of the release last week immediately received tens of thousands of likes and retweets.

The lineup is based on the artist’s “12 Signs of the Zodiac” series, which first appeared on @papao_pao ‘s Twitter account last year. The 12-piece collection has been divided into the four elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water, with the first release offering up one sign from each category: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer.

The lingerie set for the star sign of Cancer consists of a frilly blue bra-and-pants ensemble, with side cut-outs in the cups and band referencing the sharp claws of the crab and the colour tone and frills inspired by the waves of the crab’s beach environment.

Geminis are said to have a dual nature, as symbolized by the twins which represent the star sign. Its corresponding lingerie set reflects this duality with one black and one white cup in the sheer babydoll top and similar alternating colours in the pants.

Aries, symbolised by the Ram, is brought to life in this three-piece set, which includes a babydoll top, pants and a garter belt. The white shade reflects the colour of a white sheep, with the animal also inspiring the fluffy adornments on the straps and around the bustline.

The final set to be unveiled in the first release is the Taurus lingerie, which features symbolic colours like: orange, to represent Aldebaran, the fiery-coloured eye of the Bull in the constellation; blue, to represent the hue of the Pleiades cluster of stars (known in Japan as “Subaru”), and brown straps on the bra and pants to symbolise the colour of the bull’s horns.

All these four items can currently be pre-ordered from Izumi’s online website until 30 April. Prices start at a very reasonable 3,980 yen (US$35.75) for the Taurus and Cancer designs, while the Gemini set is priced at 4,480 yen and the Aries ensemble is available for 4,980 yen.

Each set comes in a boxed package, featuring the orignal anime designs sketched by @papao_pao, and customers who pre-order the sets will also receive a matching keyring as a “purchase bonus”.

While the new lingerie for the remaining eight star signs are yet to be officially unveiled on the lingerie manufacturer’s website, we can get an idea of what to expect by checking out the original illustrations on @papao_pao’s Twitter account.

With the new line of lingerie generating so much excitement on social media, we can’t wait to see the details for the follow-up designs. According to the manufacturer, four more sets will be released at the beginning of May, followed by the final four at the beginning of June. After that, we’re hoping we’ll get to see @papao_pao’s other collections come to life as real-life lingerie sets too!

Cute cats are venturing out into the world of intimate apparel again with gorgeous results.

Japanese online retailer Felissimo has been bringing out adorable cat-themed items for several years now, even adding a cute collection of feline lingerie to their product lineup back in 2014. The popular range has been updated over the years, with a variety of cat breeds now appearing in the extensive bra-and-pant collection, which includes everything from graceful Russian Blue-inspired pieces to refined sets inspired by the Siamese cat.

Now the company is adding two new items to their cat lingerie collection, and this time they’re designed to be worn around the home, so you can laze about indoors with all the carefree abandon of a purring, paw-licking feline.

The new three-piece sets include the “Cute Nyanko” – “Nyanko” being a cute way to refer to a cat in Japanese – which consists of a pair of white frilly pants, a blue-lace adorned babydoll slip and a matching tail, all embellished with pink ribbons to represent the pink-coloured nose of the blue-eyed white cat that serves as this outfit’s inspiration.

▼ The next slip on offer is the “Sexy Nyanko“, which features the same glossy, dark colour of a well-groomed black feline.

The black three-piece set includes a pair of ruffle shorts, a camisole, and a removable black tail. Orange ribbons peek out from the folds of material like the bewitching orange eyes of the black cat.

▼ Both designs come with removable inserts for extra support and comfort.

▼ The sets also feature specially designed straps that mimic the shape of cat ears.

Available in medium, large and extra-large sizes, both designs are currently available from the Felissimo website for 5,284 yen (US$48.20) each, with international purchases available from their global website shortly. As always, a portion of the sale price goes to the Felissimo cat fund, which works to care for animals without owners and provide assistance to foster pet programs.

Age is no barrier to beauty when you feel comfortable in your own skin.

In the past, we’ve seen ads that pull at our heartstrings and have us reaching for the tissues, but now it’s time for a commercial that inspires us to feel empowered at any age.

Created by lingerie maker Triumph International Japan, the new clip features 55-year-old Seiko Matsuda, one of the country’s most well-known faces, who made her debut on the idol scene back in 1980 at the tender age of 18.

▼ Take a look at the young “Seiko-chan” singing “Hadashi no Kisetsu” (“Barefoot Season”) in 1980 (song starts at 1:40).

Matsuda has been enthralling audiences with her songs for years, but now the pop singer-songwriter is capturing the attention of viewers as the face of Triumph’s Florale lingerie line. Designed for mature wearers, the popular collection aims to compliment the beauty and confidence of women who have a rich tapestry of life experiences.

Take a look at Matsuda skipping through the ad for the new Spring/Summer 2017 range below:

For the longer version, which introduces the range of bras available in the Florale Spring/Summer 17 collection, take a look at this clip below:

Filmed with a special high-speed camera, the new commercials, which are currently appearing on Japanese television, encapsulate a sense of freedom and joy we all hope to have when we’re dancing around in our underwear in our 50s.

Dubbed the “eternal idol” for her ageless beauty and unending popularity, the ad shows another reason for Matsuda’s enduring appeal. Her total body confidence proves there’s no age limit to beauty; as long as you feel beautiful in your skin, you too can be an “eternal idol”, no matter what age you are!

Virgin-killing sweater back on sale in Japan with all-new colours added to the range

From racy red to baby pink, now there’s a virgin-killing sweater to suit all tastes and occasions.

In January, Japan discovered a revealing garment dubbed the “virgin-killing sweater”. So-called for its ability to make virgins drop dead with the way it coyly lets the curves of a woman’s body poke through at all the right angles, the sexy sweater took the country – and the world – by storm, instantly selling out as soon as it arrived on Japanese shores.

▼ Even popular model Jun Amaki is a fan of the virgin-killing sweater.

Instagram Photo

Originally available through Chinese retailer Taobao, Japan’s novelty retailer Village Vanguard had the sweater in stock last month, selling out on the same day it went on sale. Now Village Vanguard has announced that the garment is back in stock, and this time there’s more than just the original blue-grey version available. From racy red to baby pink, now there’s a virgin-killing sweater to suit all tastes and occasions.

▼ Fans of the original look will be happy to know that the blue version is still available.

▼ But now there’s a jet-black version available too.

▼ The sweater also comes in grey…

▼ White…

▼ Baby pink…

▼ And racy red.

▼ With looks this hot, the sweaters will be flying off the shelves.

Available at Village Vanguard stores around the country and online, each sweater retails for 5,000 yen (US$45.82), which means we might just be able to splurge on more than one colour in the range!

American Kirby is hardcore, but Japanese Kirby is panties【Photos】

Further proof that the beloved, globular Nintendo video game star is marketed very differently in the two countries.

You might not guess it from looking at him, what with his skin being as smooth and unlined as ever, but Kirby, star of the Nintendo-published franchise, is celebrating his 25th year in the video game industry. Kirby of the Stars (renamed Kirby’s Dream Land for English-speaking territories) came out for the Game Boy on April 27, 1992, and to mark Kirby’s quarter-century milestone, Japanese lingerie brand Yummy Mart is releasing a line of Kirby-themed intimate apparel and accessories.

Starting things off are the Kirby panties, priced at an affordable 1,680 yen (US$15).

▼ “Kirby of the Stars” is written across the front in Japanese text.

If you’re looking for a top-and-bottom set, 4,980 yen will get you a bustier and pair of panties that bear Kirby’s name but not his image.

For lounging about the house, there’s the 5,980-yen pajama set

Prefer a one-piece look? Yummy Mart has you covered with a 3,980-yen mini dress, though the short hemline is only one of the reasons it’ll take a certain amount of courage to wear if other people are around.

And rounding off the collection are two choice pieces of non-clothing Kirby merch: the 1,680-yen eye mask

…and 3,980-yen backpack.

The whole lineup will be available from April 26 through Yummy Mart’s online shop, but the very first place you can get your hands on these items will be at Yummy Mart’s retail location in Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood, which will start selling the collection on April 22. Like Yummy Mart’s Pikachu panties from last year, quantities are likely to be limited, so you’ll want to move fast if you want to suck up some of this unique Kirby merch.

This Mother’s Day, give Mom some panties, Japanese lingerie maker suggests

$

When you were a kid, your mom bought your underwear for you, but are you comfortable returning the favor?

Japan celebrates Mother’s Day on the same day as the U.S. does, which this year will be May 14. With just a few weeks left between now and then, loving children are thinking about what to get mom as a present, and one company has a very…unusual suggestion.

While carnations are associated with Mother’s Day in other countries as well, the connection is iron-clad in Japan. So for those who haven’t gotten a gift for Mom yet, Kyoto-based Wacoal suggests these.

Elegantly and individually wrapped, what mother wouldn’t be deeply touched to receive these from her son or daughter? Actually, that’s not a rhetorical question, and the answer is “Any mom who doesn’t want her kids buying panties for her.”

See, Wacoal isn’t a florist. It’s a lingerie maker (the same one that recently polled women about their “showdown lingerie”). So while those may look like carnations, they’re actually carefully rolled, folded, and packaged panties.

Officially called the “Pants Flower” series, some solace can be taken in that Wacoal chose a decidedly conservative, non-sexy design for the lineup. If you absolutely feel the need to give your mom some intimate apparel as a present, well, this is probably the most appropriate style to go with.

▼ Although things are going to get awkward if she stops to read the packaging, which has “UNDERWEAR is LOVELETTER” written across it.

Aside from folding the panties to resemble carnations, the fabric is actually colored with dye extracted from the traditional Mother’s Day flowers, adding just a tiny bit of logic to this rather unorthodox gift idea.

The Pants Flowers series is priced at 1,296 yen (US$11.70) a pair, meaning that even if you baffle your mom with your present selection, you at least might be able to impress her with your frugality. All three colors can be ordered here directly from Wacoal, in medium or large sizes (apparently the company is confident your mom isn’t svelte enough for a small). Oh, and if you’re not quite convinced this is what your mom wants for Mother’s Day, you might want to consider some other options too.

Sexy Japanese woman makes jaws drop in new commercial for local web design company 【Video】

$

The popular gravure idol causes a stir by bathing naked in an onsen hot spring and moaning while her nipples are squirted with a water gun.

When it comes to marketing, everybody knows sex sells. If you want to take the raunchy images in your marketing campaign to the limit, though, your options remain pretty narrow in the mainstream world of television and print media, which is why some companies turn to the less-censored realm of web-exclusive advertising.

Case in point is Aichi-based web design company Ababai, who recently caused a stir when they released their latest promotional video on YouTube. The ad, which follows the storyline of a construction company boss out on an onsen hot spa getaway with his sexy lover, is shot in the style of a late-night commercial from the Showa period (1926-1989), and comes filled with plenty of unabashed close-up images of breasts.

Take a look at the commercial below:

The stars of the commercial are Mizuki Nishimura, a Japanese actor and comedian who’s best known for being part of the comedy duo “Viking”, and gravure model Tomoyo Uesugi, who starred in the raunchy 2012 Japanese movie Watashi no Dorei ni Narinasai (Be My Slave).

▼ Uesugi brings her big talents to the small screen for this campaign, as she disrobes and frolics in the spa…

▼ And moans while her nipples are sprayed with a hard jet of water from a water gun.

Throughout all these sexy shenanigans, the construction company boss is continually distracted by mail messages on his mobile phone, ruining the atmosphere so much that his lover finally inserts the phone between her breasts, asking him to choose between her or work.

The sexy getaway comes to a premature end when the impatient girlfriend decides to leave her lover due to all the constant email distractions.

▼ The boss wakes up to find he’s now alone, with his lover’s breakup announcement scrawled on the mirror in lipstick.

The moral of this near four-minute long adventure tells us that if you want to keep your sexy lover interested, let Ababai handle all your website design needs. Whether or not that will really help with those clandestine rendezvous is probably something that’s best left for another video, but it certainly is a memorable way to get people to sit up and pay attention to your company!

Beautiful Japanese women model new releases from anime artist’s zodiac sign lingerie range

From the sweet Virgo to the mysterious Scorpio, these anime-style lingerie sets are even more stunning on real-life models.

Just last month we brought you news of a “12 Signs of the Zodiac” lingerie range illustrated by Japanese anime artist and Twitter user @papao_pao. The talented artist’s designs, which started off as creative sketches, were now being turned into a real-life collection, and the first lot released were filled with all sorts of beautiful details that blew everyone away.

One month after the initial four-piece release from the 12-piece collection, it’s now time to take a look at the second installment in the range, which is currently available for pre-sale from 1-31 May. These pieces embody the characteristics of four more star signs – Scorpio, Virgo, Leo and Libra – which represent the four elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.

● Scorpio

Strong, commanding, passionate and intense, Scorpios also have a secretive side that makes them appear mysterious.

It’s only appropriate then, that the most “mysterious” look in the collection is reserved for the Scorpio bra-and-pants set. Featuring the deep, dark colours of black and burgundy, this bold look comes with strings of black hearts, in line with the passionate nature of this zodiac sign. These black heart strings also represent the Scorpion’s stinging tail, while the jagged frills represent the sharp pincers of the arachnid.

● Virgo

Faithful, modest, considerate and helpful, Virgoans are said to have a trustworthy and serious character. They also love attention to detail, which means they’ll love the fine embellishments included in this lingerie set.

Modelled on the Greek goddess Demeter, who’s often connected to the star sign, this bra-and-pant set comes in a beautiful shade of strawberry pink. As the harvest goddess, Demeter is often pictured with ears of corn, and these are represented here in the shape of large, frilly yellow ribbons. The front-hooking bra and its cross strap back give the set a sweet yet sexy look, and the small silver star sign charm that hangs off the right bra cup is another tiny detail that Virgoans will love.

● Leo

Passionate and cheerful, and not afraid to be a little showy, the self-confident Leo is said to said to make people naturally gather around them.

The corresponding babydoll-and-pants set picks up on all these inherent characteristics, while looking to the Greek mythological story of Leo for its design details. The lemon yellow colour is used to represent the colour of the lion, which was killed by the god Hercules, while the green frills resemble the ivy in the Nemean Forest, where their battle took place. The furry halter-neck strap and small ribbon detail on the back of the pants also hark back to the lion, mimicking its mane and tail.

● Libra

Not one to show strong emotions, peace-loving Librans are known for their sense of justice, represented by their symbol, the scales, which is the only inanimate symbol in the zodiac.

The Greek goddess Astraea is most often associated with this constellation, and is often depicted with a set of scales in one hand and a sword in the other. These symbols appear in the lingerie set, with the cups representing the scales themselves, and the rope-like straps representing the chains that hold them. The lace insert in the front section of the pants contains a beautiful image of the sword, while the green colour is a nod to the fact that the constellation contains a green-tinged star.

Each of the designs above retails for 3,980 yen (US$34.97), except the Leo set, which retails for 4,480 yen. To make a purchase, head on over to the official site, where you can see more great images of the designs in detail.

With the four final lingerie sets scheduled to be unveiled on the site next month, we’ll be passing the time until the next release with a look at @papao_pao‘s other lingerie sketches inspired by chess pieces and the robots of Mobile Suit Gundam. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to see these illustrated undergarments come out into the real world too!

Zodiac sign lingerie range inspired by Japanese anime artist reveals final designs

Japanese lingerie models show off all the gorgeous details from the unique collection.

It wasn’t long ago since we first laid eyes on the “12 Signs of the Zodiac” illustrated lingerie range by Japanese anime artist and Twitter user @papao_pao. The sketches were so unique and creative that they immediately caught the attention of Japanese lingerie manufacturer Izumi, who decided to manufacture the range in real life.

Teasing us with four star-sign releases at a time, the company has now revealed the final sets in the range, showcasing the styles of Pisces, Capricorn, Sagittarius and Aquarius, which represent the four elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.

First up in the collection is Pisces, which takes its inspiration from the Greek myth behind the star sign, where Aphrodite and her son Eros turned themselves into fish to escape Typhon, a monster who threatened the gods and goddesses at Mount Olympus. These two fish were honored by being placed in the sky as the constellation Pisces.

Drawing on this myth, the Pisces lingerie set also honours the two fish, by showing them on the sides of the cups and in the form of a two-tailed ribbon in the middle of the bra. The fish imagery also appears on the side and back of the pants, with small embellishments resembling the foam of the sea.

The lingerie outfit for Aquarius is modelled on the myth connected to the star sign, which centres around Ganymedes, also known as Ganymede, a handsome Trojan prince who was kidnapped and sent to heaven by Zeus to be appointed as cup-bearer of the gods.

The see-through material and unusual shoulder strap design here is said to resemble the flowing nectar, poured by Ganymedes for the gods, which bestowed them with eternal youth and vigour. The blue frills on the front resemble a liquid foam, while the lace straps on the back hark back to Ganymedes’ kidnapping.

The Capricorn lingerie set is inspired by the star sign’s mythological origin story, where the god Pan jumped into water to escape the monster Typhon, but only managed to change half of his body, ending up with the body of a goat and the tail of a fish.

The white babydoll top gradually becomes pink at the bottom, and is paired with pink pants, designed to resemble a pink salmon, harking back to Capricorn’s fish-like lower body. Flowers on the lace straps are a nod to the god Pan, who looks after the hills and fields, while the lace covering on the front of the pants resembles the scales of a fish.

The Sagittarius set is modelled on Chiron, a half-man and half-horse centaur who was shot by Hercules with a poisoned arrow.

The three-piece garter set comes in a brown shade with white fur embellishments to represent the half-horse centaur. Between the cups of the bra and the straps is an adorable metallic horseshoe latch, while on the back of the pants is the centaur’s tail.

Each lingerie set retails for 4,480 yen (US$40.91), except the Pisces design, which retails for 3,980 yen. To make a purchase, head on over to the official site, or if you’d like to gaze at more of @papao_pao‘s creative lingerie sketches, check out these chess piece sets and ideas inspired by the robots of Mobile Suit Gundam. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to see these illustrated undergarments come out into the real world too!

Revolutionary Girl Utena lingerie, with the power to revolutionize your intimate apparel options

One of anime’s most prominent same-sex romantic couplings inspires paired lingerie sets and new illustration from the series’ character designer.

While it never achieved the same cultural penetration as certain other 1990s anime hits such as Sailor Moon or Evangelion, Revolutionary Girl Utena, the surreal saga of sensual schoolgirls and swordsmanship, has remained dear to fans with whom it struck a chord. There’s now a way for Utena fans to keep the franchise literally close to their hearts, thanks to the designers at anime fashion label Super Groupies.

1997 marks the 20th anniversary of the series’ original Japanese TV broadcast, and in celebration Super Groupies has unveiled a pair of lingerie sets that take styling cues from Utena’s imagery and their color schemes from the anime’s central characters.

Representing titular heroine Utena Tenjo is this navy blue bra and panty set with white and crimson trim, mirroring the uniform worn by Utena during her time at the mysterious Otori Academy. Roses figure heavily in Utena’s pervasive symbolism, and attached to the front of the both the bra and shorts are rose crests in the same shocking pink shade as Utena’s hair.

Roses also make an appearance in the lace patterning an the outer surface of the bra cups and the crotch of the panties.

If, on the other hand, you spent most of your time watching Utena expectantly, waiting for the mysterious Rose Bride Anthy Himemiya to make an appearance, she too has a lingerie set.

The design is identical to that of the Utena lingerie, but with much more vibrant color choices, mirroring Anthy’s. Once again, the distinctive hue of the character’s hair, in this case violet, is used for the hue of the rose crests.

While these lingerie sets didn’t appear in the Utena TV series itself, they do now exist in anime artwork form as well. Character designer Shinya Hasegawa has created an illustration of Utena and Anthy clad in the intimate apparel while perched atop a bed. Customers who purchase the Utena set will receive a copy of the illustration, while those who order Anthy’s set get a plastic file bearing the lingerie scene on one side and a previously used piece of promotional artwork on the back.

Both sets are made from a nylon/polyurethane blended material, priced at 8,800 yen (US$79), and can be ordered until July 2 here from Super Groupies, with delivery scheduled for late October. Unfortunately, there’s no discount for placing an order for both sets simultaneously to keep Utena and Anthy together.

Japanese women’s breasts continue to grow, reach historic tipping point in lingerie maker’s study

Intimate apparel manufacturer releases newest volume of Lingerie White Paper.

If you’re the sort of person who likes to keep your eyes on breasts, in a statistical sense, of course, you might recall that Japanese intimate apparel manufacturer Triumph periodically releases what it calls the Lingerie White Paper. Since 1980, the company has been annually compiling statistics on its bra sales, with the data broken down by cup size, in an attempt to determine the current state of chest sizes in Japan.

We last sifted through the data two years ago. Since then, the trend of increasingly large busts has continued, with Triumph’s sales of A cup bras falling to a minuscule 4.1 percent of the sales total in 2016, in stark contrast to the 58.6 percent of its sales that came from A cup offerings in 1980. In fact, A, B, and C cup sales have all been in steady decline, continuing through the most recent period.

● A cup sales (2015): 4.7 percent
● A cup sales (2016): 4.1 percent
● B cup sales (2015): 19.5 percent
● B cup sales (2016): 19 percent
● C cup sales (2015): 26.1 percent
● C cup sales (2016): 25.6 percent

Since we’re talking about both physical and sales proportions here, this of course means that Triumph has been seeing increasing sales for larger cup sizes.

● D cup sales (2015): 24.8 percent
● D cup sales (2016): 25 percent
● E cup sales (2015): 16.7 percent
● E cup sales (2016): 17.2 percent
● F cup sales (2015): 6.6 percent
● F cup sales (2016): 6.6 percent

And while those aren’t huge gains, they’re increases nonetheless, and together they add up to a significant turning point. Triumph’s combined D, E, and F cup sales in 2016 accounted for 51.3 percent of its sales total in 2016, making it the first time ever that demand for its larger bras surpassed that for more petite sizes. While this development has been a long time coming, it’s still a dramatic reversal from 1980, when D-plus cup sizes were a mere 4.5 percent of Triumph’s business.

It’s worth pointing out that while the data indirectly points to Japan’s breasts getting larger, the statistical trends could be being caused by a shift in Triumph’s customer base, or even large-breasted women simply buying more lingerie per capita than less busty shoppers. Still, the huge differences between 1980 and 2016 are unlikely to have happened without at least some corresponding changes to the baseline body type in Japan, so maybe there’s not as much need for boob-producing optical illusion T-shirts as some people may have thought.

It’s like Transformers with Japanese schoolgirls, only with panties, bras and breasts playing a key role in each transformation.

In the world of anime, anything is possible. From zipper-wielding superheroes to a talking butt that solves crimes, there’s nothing that the illustrated world can’t handle, and now that includes schoolgirls who transform into mecha at the blink of an eye, all while flashing their underwear.

The new anime, called Henkei Girls, or Transforming Girls, is so bizarre it’s being called “the craziest anime in Japan” by its Japanese makers, and judging by comments on their introductory YouTube clips, viewers are in total agreement.

What makes the anime so bizarre is the way that breasts and underpants become key features of the robot or vehicle that each girl transforms into. To ease us into their bizarre fantasy world, DLE.inc, the Japanese anime production company behind the project, is currently releasing a number of short clips introducing us to the characters and their transformations, starting off with a schoolgirl named Haru, who first appeared online back in May.

▼ Haru exposes her cleavage while giving us all a glimpse of her panties after she transforms into a fighter jet.

Last month, a schoolgirl called Rin appeared on the scene, in a clip that makes use of numerous up-skirt shots.

▼ Her underwear even appears on the vehicle she transforms into.

▼ The car has cleavage too.

This month, they’re giving us a look at a transforming girl called Itsuki. In their most risqué clip yet, the character coyly undresses before the transformation, with phrases like, “You want me to…here?” and “It’s a little embarrassing”.

▼ Itsuki’s weapon appears to be the “Brassiere Rolling Cutter”.

▼ There are distinct sexual overtones to this character’s transformation.

Bringing the character vocals to life are popular voice actresses Kana Hanazawa, who plays Itsuki, and Mao Ichimichi, also known as M·A·O, who plays Haru. The character of Rin is voiced by professional Japanese cosplayer, voice actress and model Enako, who is bringing her vocal experience from the video game world to anime for the very first time.

With five main characters in the series, we still have two more transforming girls to meet, with one being introduced later this month on YouTube, followed by the final character video, scheduled to appear online in August.

After they’ve all introduced themselves, it will be time to enjoy the CG anime shorts for Henkei Girls, which are said to revolve around “a world where seemingly ordinary high school girls can “transform” into various vehicles and robots.” Each episode will focus on a new girl as they get into various situations and use their shape-shifting gifts in order to get around everyday high school life.

While they’re keeping hush on the exact details of the anime, the popularity of these introductory video clips proves there’s an audience out there hungry for more Transforming Girls. To keep up to date with developments, check out the official website or follow them on Twitter for more details.

With so much love online for the new project, we have a feeling fans will be passing the time until the end of August with fan art featuring the new magical characters. Either that or they’ll be getting their hands dirty in their workrooms, crafting out amazing real-life transformer models like this one!

These are probably Japan’s cheapest bra and panties, and for a very good reason

For those times when you want to feel like you’ve got grass growing all over your chest and hindquarters.

Japanese lingerie designers usually go for a pretty overt mix of cute and/or sexy elements in their designs. Ribbons and frills are ever-present in intimate apparel aimed at young shoppers, and shiny metallic clips and sparkling bead accessories, placed to draw the eye to specific parts of the body, are common on racier bras and panties.

But so far it seems only one designer has been so bold as to cover a lingerie set in fake grass, like you’d see at a sports stadium with artificial turf.

Japanese Twitter user @ht_mugicha spotted this unique underwear option while shopping at Don Quijote, a Japanese discount retailer that sells…well just about anything. Don Quijote’s stores are stocked with everything from hard liquor to furniture…and apparently AstroTurf lingerie. It’s such an unprecedented fashion statement that some people had trouble visually processing what they were looking at in the photos.

“It took my brain about five seconds to understand that those are bras.”
“When I first glanced at it, I thought it was a bunch of broccoli.”
“Looks like avocados are on special.”

After realizing what they were looking at, the next question on everyone’s mind was “Why?!?” “All I can imagine is that you’re supposed to put this on when you’re planning to hide in some tall grass,” tweeted @ht_mugicha, but some online commenters had their own theories about the most appropriate situations in which to wear the bra and panties, as well as a few other observations.

“You could wear it when you’re going to play paintball.”
“Specifically designed for people who’re going to have sex outdoors.”
“Am I the only one who thinks this could be handy for scrubbing your bathtub?”
“If you cut out just the cups, you could use them as grassy hills for displaying your Nendroids [anime figures] on.”

In the end, all of this confusion doesn’t seem to have done the fake turf bra and panties any favors in the sales department, as they’ve been marked down to the extremely low price of 30 yen (US 27 cents). So while they may not be fashionable in any traditional sense, if you’re looking to build up an underwear stockpile, or simply want some very special (“weird” is a kind of special, right?) showdown lingerie, Don Quijote has you covered.

Japan celebrates panties with annual “underpants day”【Photos】

Cosplayers, illustrators and AV actresses come out in force to celebrate the wonders of the undergarment.

From maids to bananas and even Pocky sticks, Japan has a variety of weird and wonderful days dedicated to bringing attention to all sorts of things, thanks to clever puns created by the way specific day and month combinations can be pronounced.

On 2 August, it was time to celebrate “Pantsu no Hi“, or “Underpants Day“, given that “Pa” is an alternate way of reading “Ha“, or “8“, and “tsu” sounds similar to “two“. And to make sure the event didn’t go unnoticed, people across the nation came out in force to share images of the humble undergarment on social media.

Kicking things off was Yukoream, a Japanese cosplayer who’s no stranger to showing off her underwear to the world in skimpy costumes.

Other girls who chose to expose their underwear for the camera included AV actress Maria Aine

▼ And Nagi Nemoto, one of the members from idol group Niji No Conquistador.

It wasn’t all about sultry seductresses sidling up to the lens, though, as people, animals and objects from all walks of life had fun on the day.

▼ Even onigiri rice balls joined in the celebrations.

▼ For this cat with its natural furry pantline, every day is underpants day!

Artists also came out in force to share some of their works showcasing the garment.

▼ While others chose to share excerpts from their favourite anime.

With so many images of underpants floating about online, even in the days following Pantsu no Hi, it’s not too late to join in the celebrations by sharing your photos on social media with the hashtag #パンツの日 (#pantsday). After all, unless you prefer to wander around town au naturel, every day is Pants Day!

10 realities of life with small breasts, according to Japanese survey

Respondents sound off on the big differences caused by having a small chest.

While Japan’s attention is regularly captivated by large breasts, it’s not like the entire nation is filled with nothing but extra-chesty women. Despite Japan’s average bust size getting progressively larger, plenty of women are still petitely chested, and survey site Goo Ranking recently asked users to chime in on what life is like when you have what Japan calls hinnyu, literally “impoverished breasts.”

A total of 1,343 responses were collected, so let’s take a look at the top 10.

10. It’s really easy for me to fit things into my shirt pocket. (35 responses)

Breast size and breast pocket utility have an inverse relation.

9. It’s hard for me to fill out the cups on a T-shirt bra. (39 responses)

Fashion woes featured commonly in the top 10, as we’ll see as the list goes on.

8. If I smoosh my breasts together…they still aren’t that big. (46 responses)

7. I can’t wear tube tops or off-shoulder tops, because I’m afraid they’ll slip down. (52 responses)

6. Even if I jump or run, they don’t bounce. (55 responses)

5. If I wear a bra with thick pads, it’s like there’s another dimension between the bra and my breasts. (56 responses)

Many Japanese bras, particularly those aimed at young women, come standard with removable pads that fit inside the cups. While the intent is to provide a bustier outward appearance, past a certain breast/pad ratio it can start to feel a little unnatural for the wearer.

4. I never get stiff shoulders. (64 responses)

3. There really aren’t any bras that fit me. (71 responses)

While it’s true that clothing options tend to diminish anytime you move away from the median body type, there are some Japanese designers who’re putting their creative energies to use expanding the selection of lingerie for small-breasted women.

2. Just because I have small breasts doesn’t mean I have a slim build. (79 responses)

1. When I lay on my back, it’s like my breasts disappear. (139 responses)

Any woman is going to look less busty lying on her back, but for those who’re starting with a smaller amount of bustiness to begin with, there’s a possibility of being left with virtually none. This is just physics at work, though, and isn’t something that can really be counteracted, except perhaps with optical illusions.

Do Japanese women check out each other’s lingerie at the hot springs? Survey investigates

$

Japan’s shared baths also mean shared changing rooms, so do women also take in the view of bras and panties?

Communal bathing has long been a part of Japanese culture, most notably at onsen hot spring resorts. The opulence of the facilities varies by location, but in general bathers follow the same procedure.

After paying your entrance fee at the bathhouse’s entrance, you make your way to a gender-segregated changing area, undress, and head into the bathing area, where you wash your body thoroughly before finally stepping into a shared tub for a hot, relaxing soak. However, there’s apparently an additional step in the process that some Japanese women follow: checking out the lingerie of their fellow hot spring visitors.

▼ A typical onsen changing room

Japanese intimate apparel maker Wacoal, as part of its ongoing bra and panty-related survey series, recently asked “When you’re undressing/dressing at a hot spring or other shared changing room, do you end up checking out the lingerie of your friends or strangers?” Out of the 6,169 responses, 62 percent said “Yes.”

Many said they steal a glance out of an interest in fashion. Whereas they can get a feel for popular outer garment trends whenever they’re out in public, an onsen changing room provides a rare opportunity to see what sort of lingerie other women choose for themselves, leading to comments such as:

“I’m really curious about the lingerie designs and colors that women in my age group wear.”

“I check my own lingerie against the styles that other women about my age have on.”

“I want to see if people wear matching bra/panty sets, or if they mix them up.”

“When there’s a beautiful, stylish woman in the changing area, I can’t help wanting to see what kind of lingerie she has.”

“If I see my friend has on a cute set, I always ask her which brand it is.”

Others’ eyes were drawn by a desire to see an ordinarily hidden facet of a person’s aesthetic tastes.

“It’s interesting to see how some people have really different fashion senses for the style of outer clothing and lingerie they wear.”

“A surprisingly large number of quiet, prim and proper women wear incredibly flashy lingerie.”

“When I see an old granny wearing cute, lacy lingerie, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.”

“If I spot a young woman wearing really plain underwear, it makes me feel sad.”

Of course, women who sneak a peak at others’ lingerie know that they’re probably not the only ones who do so, leading one to comment “I check out other people’s lingerie, and I think some of them are probably doing the same to me, so I make it a rule never to wear old, beat-up lingerie to the hot spring.”

Japanese panty pillowcases are disturbingly versatile【Video】

Manufacturer tells customers to look forward to staining and smells.

At first glance, this product from Japanese company Ligre might look like just a pair of understated, yet extremely large, panties. But while that’s technically an accurate description, they’re not meant to be worn, but instead used as a pillowcase to rest your head on as you drift off to sleep.

Measuring 55 centimeters (21.6 inches) long by 32 wide, the extra-large panties should fit over most normal-sized pillows. They slip on just like legitimate lingerie, sliding over the corners of your pillow as easily as they would a pair of soft, fluffy hips.

Japan occasionally takes a matter-of-fact attitude about undergarments, and in the past we’ve seen panties promoted as both a chaste Mother’s Day gift suggestion and good-for-a-chuckle novelty goods. However, the Panty Pillowcase (as the product is officially called) isn’t an example of a bedding manufacturer having a little tongue-in-cheek fun. Ligre also makes a line of Tenga-like masturbatory aids, and the company fully embraces the potential dirty pleasure customers can derive from the cover, as shown in its introductory video.

For starters, the designers boast that when you lay your head down on the pillowcase, the back of your neck will be on the panties’ crotch, allowing that portion of the cover to pick up plenty of oil from your neck and hair.

As diagrammed in the video, in time this will produce a patch of lovely discoloration on the crotch, which will help heighten users’ enjoyment in the same way as a broken-in, weathered leather jacket does.

▼ Which begs the question “Why not a leather panty pillow cover?”, but the white cloth material does help staining stand out.

Of course, any pillow case that’s seen enough use to discolor is probably going to develop a distinct scent. But that’s OK too! These panties aren’t just for sleeping on or staring, but for smelling too, Ligre informs us.

And don’t forget that your fingers can get in on the fun too with some twisting and pulling action.

Lost in Ligre’s excited trumpeting of the Panty Pillowcase’s multi-functionality is the downside that it provides less-than-complete coverage of your pillow, meaning that some portions of it are going to be exposed to dirt and grime. We suppose you could avoid this problem by using the Panty Pillowcase in conjunction with a normal, all-covering pillowcase, but that extra layer of “clothing” runs counter to the ostensible sexy semi-nakedness Ligre is going for. Then again, perhaps the idea is that you’re supposed to regularly buy new pillows, giving you the feeling of being a Casanova who’s bedding a new girl every few weeks, with a variety of skin tones to please your broad palate for female companionship.

The Panty Pillowcase is available for order here from novelty goods retailer Village Vanguard for 2,376 yen (US$21.60), which in terms of depravity-per-dollar represents a pretty good value.

Chun-Li and Cammy, Street Fighter video game’s first fighting females, get Japanese lingerie sets

$

Strongest woman in the world and special forces operative inspire intimate apparel options.

Japan’s Super Groupies fashion label has a penchant for infusing lingerie with anime visual cues, leading to its stylish bra and panty sets based on characters from the Evangelion, Utena, and Madoka Magica animated franchises. Now, though, Super Groupies’ designers are drawing ideas from video games with the release of a pair of lingerie sets based on the first two female martial artists in fighting game series Street Fighter.

As expected, the first is a salute to Chun-Li, one of the eight selectable characters in the original version of develop Capcom’s Street Fighter II, the classic which ignited the fighting game craze and set many of the defining characteristics of the genre which continue to this day.

In addition to her traditional blue and gold color scheme, Chun-Li’s bra incorporates her distinctive hair bun ribbons into the aesthetics with a pair of decorative shoulder strap accents.

The skirt features cheongsam-like slits and is removable.

The inspiration for Cammy’s lingerie set may not be as instantly recognizable as Chun-Li’s, but the right cup does sport the insignia for her special forces unit, which traditionally shows up on the beret the character wears. Her camouflage body paint is also used as a motif along the panties’ waist and lower hem of the bra,

▼ The two-piece design makes this more revealing than Cammy’s too-hot-for-cable-TV standard costume.

In the Street Fighter games, Chun-Li’s fighting style is no less kinetic than Cammy’s. For the purposes of their lingerie, though, Super Groupies went with a sportier paradigm for Cammy, giving her a wireless bra and making her set from a cotton/polyurethane blend, as opposed to the nylon/polyurethane of Chun-Li’s set.

Cammy’s set is also a little cheaper, priced at 7,800 yen (US$71) while Chun-Li’s goes for 8,800 yen. Both can be ordered here directly from Super Groupies (which is also still taking orders for its Street Fighter sneakers) between now and September 18, with delivery scheduled for January, meaning customers will have them in their hands by the time the next Summer Comiket rolls around.

10 realities about life with large breasts, according to Japanese survey

$
0

Big breasts equals small number of fashion options.

Earlier this month, we sifted through the results of a survey from polling site Goo Ranking that highlighted aspects of life as a woman with a small chest. Of course, you can’t say something is small if there aren’t bigger examples as well, and so Goo also carried out a follow-up that looks at large breasts (figuratively).

A total of 500 responses were collected on  life with of kyonyu, or “giant breasts,” and below are the top 10.

10. When I soak in the bathtub, my breasts float up to the surface of the water (36 responses)

Whereas a bath (as opposed to just a shower) is an occasional luxury for many people in the West, a large number of Japanese people take a bath every day, which gives these women ample opportunity to observe their buxom buoyancy.

9. If I wear a top that’s low-cut, it looks excessively sexy. (39 responses)

Collarbone-hugging fashion can be stifling hot in the summer, which puts these women in a difficult position.

8. As I get older, my breasts start to visibly sag before other women’s do. (42 responses)

6 (tie). Sometimes the buttons pop off my shirt and go flying (43 responses)

Maybe Japan really does need special shirts for large-breasted women.

6 (tie). I’m embarrassed about my large cup size, so I buy bras smaller than my actual measurement. (43 responses)

5. One you get past E cups, it’s hard to find bras with cute designs. (48 responses)

While you can find plenty of girlish designs in small and medium sizes, once you move past average bustiness bras tend to be either overtly sexy or functionally plain.

3 (tie). “Large-breasted” might sound like a desirable trait, but I’m actually just heavyset. (57 responses)

3 (tie). If I wear a demi-cup/half-cup bra, my nipples don’t entirely fit in the cups, and they sometimes pop out. (57 responses)

2. People assume I’ve got huge areolas. (59 responses)

Assuming relative sizes stay the same, it’d be logical for a woman with large breasts would have large areolas. Probably best not to vocalize that hypothesis to her, however.

1. The selection of lingerie that I have to choose from is extremely small. (120 responses)

While petit-breasted women have seen their intimate apparel options increase in number recently, many chestier women bemoan the lack of variety at their end of the bell curve.
